Why the Bible?
Does God really expect us to put complete trust in this collection of documents that were written and compiled by mere men over several millennia? How do we even know that the books of the modern Bible look anything like they did when originally recorded? How do we know that it isn’t all just a bunch of unprovable stories like many other ancient writings?
All of the intellectual arguments for the irrelevance and unreliability of the Bible fall flat in the overwhelming tsunami of human experience since Jesus first walked the earth many years ago. Jesus affirmed the Law and the Prophets, quoting and referencing them, and living a life consistent with them to the point of personally fulfilling much of what was written. It made no difference to Him that these writings were delivered to His generation on perishable media by the hands of mankind and not by some visible angelic guardian. The letters of Paul and other contemporaries written since then are no less reliable, not because they are more recent or more perfectly preserved but — because we have found that by following Jesus’ and the Apostles’ example as we read them today — we experience the tangible presence and power of a living God.
For millions all over the world, it’s much too late to try and convince them that Jesus doesn’t save, transform, heal, deliver, prosper, and do amazing miracles by the hands of His people, and in a manner consistent with (and fulfillment of) the Bible. They have already seen it, and they continue to see it. By hearing and doing it you can experience Him also!
