Why The Holy Spirit?

Updated: May 27, 2025

Summary: If you have the Holy Spirit of God dwelling in you, you have it all. He is like a deposit, guaranteeing our inheritance until God comes to claim His people in person. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we have the unfathomable privilege of personally housing God Himself (aka, the Spirit of Jesus). This privilege was not afforded to anyone prior to Jesus’ resurrection, because it was not legally possible. The Spirit is our Counselor, Strengthener, Standby, Advocate, and Helper. He is an inward “knower” who communicates to our spirits what we need to know in every situation.

When Jesus spoke to His disciples shortly before he died, He did *not* say “But the Bible, which the Father will send in My name will teach you all things….” What He said was this: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” By giving the Holy Spirit priority in our lives, He “leads us into all truth” and shows us the right way to interpret scripture and everything else.

Imagine this: the same Spirit that guided Abraham and Moses guides us. The same Spirit that led Joseph and David leads us. He knows everything and is extremely willing to reveal it to us. Scripture reveals many amazing things people did when they were moved by the Holy Spirit, in both the Old Covenant and the New. That record should give us confidence that He never leads us into failure or foolishness, but rather into wisdom and victory in every situation!
