Why Me? Why do I matter?

Guess what: you absolutely matter in God’s universe. What you do matters, what you say matters, what you believe matters. Your laziness matters, your foolishness matters, as does your indifference and apathy. But your hard works of prayer, love and care matter too. This is all because a loving God created us all with the privilege of cause and effect, where our actions and inactions all have consequences.

Ever wonder why Jesus told His disciples that they should preach the gospel all over the world? Do you wonder why Jesus told His people to feed the hungry, visit and heal the sick, and visit the prisoners? Why are we supposed to pray “thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven?” He said all this because God has infused His people with both authority and Holy Spirit ability to do all of this, and if they don’t do it, it will not be done.

God isn’t into making people waste their time with good works and prayer, as if He already is getting His will done another way and just wants us to feel like we’re doing something good. If we don’t feed them, they will go hungry. If we don’t visit them, they will remain lonely. If we don’t pray heaven into earth, it will not happen. It is not God’s will that such evil things happen here, but they happen way too often anyway because God installed mankind as the responsible party on earth. No one person can do it all, but we do all have our own jurisdictions wherein we can make things right. When we work together with other believers, our positive impact is exponential!

Many float through life, believing that “whatever’s gonna happen is gonna happen” and that we have no actual share in final outcomes. If this were true, reading the Bible would be a waste of time, since it spends a lot of pages explaining right and wrong and why one has better consequences than the other. Your faith – not anyone else’s – determines your eternal outcomes.

To God, you are not a number, a collection of atoms, a motive blob of goo just taking up space in His universe. The Bible says that you are precious to Him, unique in many ways, made in God’s own likeness. He knew you before you were born. This is why most Christians cannot accept abortion, as it contradicts the truth of mankind’s intrinsic value above other life.
