Why Creationism?

Updated: November 17, 2025

If you can’t trust what the Bible book of Genesis has to say about the creation of the world and the events of early history, why would you trust what the rest of the Bible says? Jesus Himself validated Genesis by referring to Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, and Moses as literal people doing literal things. The New Testament is repetitive in its confirmation that the Old Testament Bible is a collection of words inspired by God. It confirms that specifically the first five books make up what is called “The Law,” and that this law is “good” and “holy” and “profitable for instruction.” How could these things be said about Genesis if it were a false history?

It turns out that modern science (including archaeology, geology, and biology) supports the Biblical creationist record of earth history, and thereby rejects the idea that life on earth is the result of eons of evolutionary trial and error. Back in the 1800’s Darwin could not know what we know now in the 21st century: that there is no such thing as “simple” life. Even the tiniest living organisms possess incredibly complex mechanics that defy all attempts to explain their existence by natural processes. The irreducible complexity of organs such as the eye, and the incredible interdependencies of plant, animal, and (even the astronomical) environment fit nicely into the Genesis record of a six-solar-day creation cycle. Modern biology continues to reinforce the creationist view that organisms adapt to their environments based on preexisting genetic programming (given by God when created), not by brand new spontaneously-generated code. This adaptation is always observed to stay within “kinds” (bovine, canine, feline, equine, etc.) as the Bible says it does.

The Bible is quite clear about the age of mankind and the earth, and it leaves little room for a number much beyond 6 thousand years. Again, modern science continues to validate this record. A recent discovery has proven that sedimentary rock can form in decades, not in the thousands of years that we formerly assumed. Other studies and experiments demonstrate that ice and rock layer, tree ring, and radiometric dating (all based in uniformitarianism) are not as trustworthy as was once thought, and that they have been validated only by what amounts to circular reasoning.

Since evolutionary theory requires vast amounts of time, data like this produces big problems for the evolutionist, but is in perfect alignment with the Bible. The recent discovery of soft tissue in many dinosaur bones is also a real problem for evolutionists, whose interpretation of where these bones are in rock strata (and the aforementioned dating methods) heavily depends on dinosaurs all dying out millions of years ago. This tissue could not possibly have survived more than thousands of years. This new discovery is perfectly understandable to those who believe in the young earth history recorded in the Bible.

Also, evidence for a worldwide flood (Genesis 7) continues to grow. The Mount St Helens eruption in 1980 proved that vast amounts of water can cut through solid rock in a short period of time. The Genesis flood account and a subsequent ice age would explain many geological features (like the Grand Canyon) that were previously thought to require ages. In spite of irrational attempts to prevent research from being conducted (causing one to question if science is as important to those evolutionists as they claim), there is now solid evidence that the folds found in the Canyon were created while the layers were still relatively new, as they don’t show the hardening and fracturing that must occur if the shifting happened long after formation. This is exactly what one would expect to find if all of the layers involved were deposited rapidly by a catastrophic flood, not added one by one over millions of years.

Accepting the premise that an orderly universe was created by an orderly God does not make one a poor scientist. Scientific facts are like pieces of a puzzle for which we have no box. We don’t exactly know what the whole picture looks like, so opposing theories hypothesize the picture. Biblical creationists maintain that Genesis is an accurate and reliable picture of origins. Evolutionists have an alternate view. As science progresses, we see more pieces plugging nicely into the Bible view, while evolutionists have to leave more of those pieces off to the side. So many just don’t fit the way they want! Biblical creationists welcome scientific inquiry, as they are confident that it will only confirm what they already know.

Evolutionary theory begins with one big unprovable assumption: there is no God. Therefore, it reasons, everything must have happened and is happening by natural, observable processes. This assumption allows the evolutionist to accept all kinds of conjecture and exaggeration as long as it avoids any suggestion that a supernatural being was or is involved. This position is inherently unscientific, as it presupposes cause without tangible proof. It bases its opinions of the past on fanciful (and ever-changing) extrapolations of currently observable effect. Faith is clearly involved in both paradigms! Thankfully, we can accept and believe the Bible as an accurate record of historical events given its harmony with observable data.

Prominent scientists throughout history – many of whom were founders of several modern fields of study — were Biblical creationists. Newton, Kepler, Pascal, Linnaeus, Faraday and many others professed strong beliefs in a Creator, and saw a harmony between science and faith. Clearly, their faith did not in any way hinder scientific discovery, but they saw it as a means to revealing the power and wisdom of God. They found that their faith actually gave their lives and work purpose and meaning, unlike an evolutionary perspective that reduces mankind to nothing more than a temporary cosmic accident with no greater value than that of rocks or insects.
