Why Miracles?
Updated: January 23, 2026
Miracles are a confirmation of the reality of God, His kingdom, and the truth of the Bible. Jesus told the people of His day, “unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe.” Have people really changed that much?
Some “believe” that the true miracles recorded in the Bible don’t happen these days, as if people don’t get sick or die anymore, or as if people don’t have needs anymore. Such people haven’t seen any real miracles themselves, they reason, so “miracles must not be a thing anymore.” They will even twist or add to certain Bible verses to try and support this opinion!
This is so wrong. Jesus is just as interested in solving our problems today as He ever was. Many times He does this through what might be called “natural” means, as that is all most people have faith for. But sometimes there is no other way. When mankind has no solution, we just need a genuine, bona fide miracle. Think of how upset Jesus was in Matthew 17 when his disciples couldn’t get a boy healed due to unbelief. His attitude hasn’t changed.
Thankfully, Jesus via many of His people is still in the miracle working business! People are still seeing their dead loved ones come back to life. People are still being healed of “incurable” diseases. People are still being delivered from addictions, demons, and disaster. The early church prayed for signs and wonders, and we can too.
Yet these things don’t happen in the absence of faith. How does faith come? By hearing the truth of God’s Word, the Bible. Consider this: People aren’t born again unless someone preaches salvation to them. They must hear it first, believe it, and respond. In the same way, miracles come when people are taught to expect them. Just like corn, God’s Word is designed to take root and grow in good soil – your heart. When it is ripe – when you are fully persuaded by the Word — that’s when you harvest it. That is, you act in faith on God’s Word and finally enjoy the benefit (corn) that the Word promised.
