I am the God Who Heals You
Many know God as the Supreme Authority in this world. Some even know Him as Father. Yet most don’t seem to know God as their Healer. Here is the amazing thing proven daily all over the world: knowing Him as your Healer can get you physically healed.
In the Bible, God refers to Himself by many names including Healer, Provider, Shepherd, Righteousness, Peace, and even Victory. Why would He do this? Surely these are not merely religious buzz-words meant to give us variety in song lyrics. No, when God says to His people that He is their Healer, He is conveying things that we would do well to acknowledge and believe.
For one, He is letting us know that He recognizes our less-than-perfect constitutions (imperfect since mankind left the Garden of Eden). He knows that we now have bodies that can and do experience malfunction and viral attack. In other words, He knows that we have very real and pressing physical needs.
Second, He wants us to know His attitude about our weak situation. Some think that God is indifferent to our trouble, but one doesn’t need to read much of the Bible books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John (referred to as The Gospels) to know how Jesus – Whom we learn is God in the flesh – views bodily ailment. He didn’t tolerate it! Even at the risk of offending religious people, Jesus did not wait to deal with malfunction when He encountered it. This is a big clue to what God meant when He called Himself the God Who Heals You. He is not the “God Who Might Someday Think About Getting You Healed” or “The God Who Only Heals You Spiritually” as some claim. Jesus healed every kind of actual, physical bodily dysfunction without excuse or qualification.
So does God still do this today? He most certainly does. In fact, He gave His disciples authority to do the same thing! So how do we experience God as Healer? The same way we experience every other heavenly gift: by faith. We hear the truth of God’s promise, we accept it, and when we are fully persuaded, we act on it. Some believers have a special “gift” of healing, and we can receive it that way. Some receive wisdom from the Lord about something to do, or something not to do, and then the healing follows that obedience. However it comes, born again children of God the Healer can expect to receive healing!
