Why Kingdom?

Jesus and the early disciples went about preaching the “Kingdom of God” (a.k.a., Kingdom of Heaven in Matthew), revealing a great deal about what it is, and what it isn’t. The scripture makes it clear that the Kingdom is not just a group of people: it is a government where Jesus is King. When you make a heart choice to make Jesus Lord (see Why Born Again?), you become a legal citizen of that Kingdom (actually more than that: a member of God’s own household!). All the rights and privileges of the Kingdom become yours at that moment. Can you imagine? Every blessing outlined in Deuteronomy 28-30 now belongs to you – not when you get to heaven – but right now!

So how do you experience it? It does not happen automatically, any more than being Born Again happens automatically. The great news is that you can learn it! The Spirit is very available and willing to teach you Kingdom living, as much as you are willing to listen and put it into practice.

For example, Jesus and the early disciples demonstrated the command to effect God’s will in the earth, undoing and destroying the works (or kingdom) of the enemy. They did this many ways that we can study and duplicate (and exceed! – see John 14:12). He told us to pray “Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven….” He told us to love one another, heal the sick, raise the dead, be generous, and be good stewards over everything within our own jurisdictions to make Jesus truly Lord there. Business people, builders, physicians, scientists, lawyers, politicians, farmers, and everyone else no matter their interests and giftings all fully realize their potential within the Kingdom. There is no greater place to be! It is the life we were always meant to live.
